Supplies needed shown here |
Step 1: Glue together both 1" pieces of wood. After that dries score lines every 2/16" apart N & S and then score lines E & W into the top piece of wood as shown above. |
Step 2: Cut off the tip of your decorative toothpick and save both pieces. (This is easier using scissors, although shown using a box cutter in the picture above.) |
Step 3: Cut your longest piece of the toothpick as shown, leaving 1 2/16" from he decorative end (this will be the North end). Discard the piece with the pointed tip. |
Step 4: Be careful not to cut your finger as this step is a little tricky to do. Cut a line into the decorative toothpick from the cut end of the toothpick to the ridge before the decorative part. Cut another line right next to that and peel out the layer you just cut. |
Step 5: Paint the North and East sides black. |
Step 6: Paint half of the layer black on the South side as shown. |
Step 7: Paint the top 2/16" on the East side of your wood piece Black, as shown. Paint your two toothpics you have set aside Black also. |
Step 8: Paint the West side and the top layer on the South side Alpine Green (or grey, whichever you prefer). |
Step 9: Cut a small sliver of aluminum the length of your cut in your toothpick. Glue into the cut opening. This step is extremely hard to do, have patience and use a pair of tweezers to help in the process. |
Step 10: Cut a piece of aluminum to fold over that will fit the top North and the North side of the cutter and glue on as shown.
Glue the small toothpick onto the end of the larger toothpick as shown (making sure your handle blade is facing down) After that dries, glue your handle in place leaving a small gap from the top of the paper cutter as shown. |
Step 11: Draw lines with a pencil on your metal piece on the top of the cutter, to simulate the look of a ruler, this does not have to be perfect.
See photos at the top of the page of the completed project. |
If these instructions are confusing in any way (on any of my projects, not just this one), please let me know and I will change them accordingly. I would love to hear your feedback when using my instructions so that I can make them better to understand for the next person. I promise you will not hurt my feelings with any constructive advice you may have for me. Thanks! : ) |
For easier understanding in the instructions, I will refer to the direction of the paper cutter by North and South from this Top View. |
