Great idea for the miniature toy room, who can resist this cute lil Jack in the Box. He's easy to make too. SUPPLIES YOU'LL NEED: Black, Red, Yellow & White Paint Detailing paint brush All Purpose Craft Glue Wire Cutters or Tin Cutters Small Pipe Cleaners - Red, Blue 3mm Pom Pom Balls 1/2" Wood Block 5/16" Wooden Bead With Hole 28 Gauge Gold Wire 26 Gauge Black or Gold Wire Tiny Red Bead With Hole Gold Sequin Small Piece of Thick Cardboard Gloss Decoupage Needlenose Pliers Wire Cutters |
Paint the wooden bead white. After the paint dries, paint a yellow circle on top of the bead, so it will look like a hat. Paint the face using the picture above as a guide. Paint red hair around the bead up to the yellow hat. Paint the wooden square: red on top & bottom, alternate blue & yellow on sides. Decorate the sides with dots of orange paint or a picture with primary colors of some sort. Right click on the image to save to your hard drive and print it out to the size of the wooden block. Decoupage the design onto the wooden block on each side. |
Measure out 7/8" of your pipe cleaner and bend (do not cut it yet though) Bend the pipe cleaner in half an stick the bent part through the hole in the top of the bead (See pic below). |
Bend the pipe cleaner at the top with needlenose pliers to form sort of a jester hat (See pic below). Cut off extra pipe cleaner with wire cutters. Glue a 3mm black pom pom ball onto each end of the pipe cleaner for the jester hat. |
Using your needlnose pliers make a circle with the blue pipe cleaner and cut. Glue onto neck of Jack in the Box head. Cut off excess red pipe cleaner hanging off of the end of the neck piece. |
Glue your gold sequin in the middle of the red painted area on your wood square. Wrap your 28 gauge gold wire around the end of your paintbrush a few times and cut, this will be the spring. Glue the spring to the neck piece of the Jack in the Box head. Now glue the spring assembly with the head attached to the sequin. Glue the 1/2" square painted cardboard to the back of the wooden block to make the flap. The red should be facing the red on the top of the wooden block. Put another coat of Decoupage on the entire wooden block and the back flap. Put a small hole into the right side of the wooden block, centered in the middle of the block, for the hand crank. Using your needlenose pliers, bend your 26 gauge wire 2 bends, it will kinda look like a staircase. Glue the tiny red bead with a hole in it onto the end of the wire. After the glue is dry, cut off the excess wire. Using your needlnose pliers, glue the wire into the hole and let it sit until it's dry. |
Cut out a 1/2" square piece of cardboard. Paint one side red and the other side blue. Set off to the side to dry. |
